David Ashworth

David started running in 2005 as a member of the Florida Running Club based in Roodepoort, Johannesburg. He completed his first Comrades in 2006 and has, to date, run the race 10 times with a PB (personal best) of 6h24 in 2018. David has also run 9 Two Oceans Ultra’s with a PB of 3h39 in 2012. He has completed various trail races as well as cycling and open-water swimming events.

David became heavily involved in parkrun in South Africa in 2012, teaming up with Bruce and Gill Fordyce to launch the Roodepoort parkrun. In 2013, David and Ann moved to Bryanston where they started the Bryanston parkrun. Between 2012 and 2015, David fulfilled the role of Regional Director for parkrun South Africa (Central Gauteng).

David ran his fastest marathon (2h31) in 2011 at the Brussels Marathon. His second fastest time is 2h33 which he ran at the Valencia Marathon in 2018.

David has worked with a number of coaches over the years including Bruce Fordyce, Andrew Bosch, Neville Beeton, Gerrie Coetzee and John Hamlett.

Athlete performances under David’s coaching include novice short-distance up to elite ultra-distance races. Lizzy Ramadimetja achieved a top ten (Gold) at the Two Oceans Ultra marathon in April 2019 as well as the new Isavel Roche-Kelly medal for completing the Comrades Marathon in under 7h30min.
